And for those of you that wonder what I look like (since I haven't posted a picture of myself on my blog) here ya go! Just add 40+ years. Boy, I wish my butt still looked like that! ;)-
This is the story of my journey to adopt a child from Kazakhstan.

And yes, many nights (days, nights, and more sleepless nights) I think I may have just lost my mind! But, I'm also excited and am looking forward to all the challenges, thrills, sweet little moments, panic, hope, messes, joys, and mostly love that will be an everyday part of my life.
I've changed my life pretty dramatically in the past year (new job, new state, new house, new life!) in part because I wanted a fresh start, but also because doing so allowed me financially and emotionally to pursue adoption.
Most of you know that my mother had me at nearly 40 and raised me alone. And this was back when being a single mom, and especially an older single mom, was not a very acceptable thing to do. I'm sad that Mom will never know her grandchild, but I know she would be thrilled that I am doing this. From her I have learned independence, tenacity, resourcefulness, and that family is not defined by numbers or what society thinks it should be, but by love and support. Thank you, Mom, for setting the example that has given me the courage to follow, in my own way, in your footsteps.

Alysa,
I am totally cracking up. What a great picture and would we all love for our butts to have remained from when we were 3. :)
Here's hoping that darn elusive LOI comes soon.

That is way too funny! :) Nice biscuits as my sister would call them. :)

Okay, I'm laughing at your cute photo but I'm also *cracking* up at Sandi's comment. I wonder if she realized how funny her word usage was when you know it goes with your photo?
I will tell you that when I was little I used to be soooo upset that my brother never wiped after he went pee like I had to. It used to make my parents laugh when I complained. They just used to say, "Boys don't have to wipe." I was really upset about that! hee hee
Yep, you had cute buns and you look very proud of it in the photo!

Oh my gosh, that is just too cute!!
When I was that age, I soooooo wished I could stand up and go. I thought it was NO fair that boys could stand up and girls had to sit down. The injustices of the world! :-)
your lil boy will learn just fine. Sean sat to go until he figured out going on the potty anyway. :)
You were a cutie pie and i'm sure you still are. :)
Great pic--great black mail pic.
I have a great picture of Sean sitting on the potty reading some chic magazine. It's a classic.
Thanks for the laugh! Alex sat for awhile, but now he stands. Boys are a lot to deal with when you a have a not so clean bathroom situation.
I can see the similarities of you and that cutie pie in the picture.
We've been told that they are already potty training 8 month "Bubbette" here in Kaz. I guess they start them around this time. She is usually in panties most of the day except when we have her for visits then I put her in a diaper we bring. Maybe you will not have to worry about it LOL
Thanks for the posts and the advise to bring a spatula-Lesley
Whoa Nellie!!! Cute caboose!
Thanks for posting a photo of yourself! I still don't know if I would recognize you at the airport...unless you mooned me. ;-)
Hilarious - a rebel at a very young age! Who needs a penis to pee standing up?!
We taught L to straddle the toilet backwards. Don't ask me why. Someone told us to do it because he would just need to back up to get the whole standing and peeing thing. It seems like it is less difficult somehow - he didn't need the seat insert which is a big pain. We never got around to the standing part and he went to pre-K and did his thing sitting backwards and the aide was confounded. I guess we are the only ones that did this?? The teacher asked us to teach him how to pee correctly. That was an interesting conversation.
