So, just for fun, let's play a little game. How much AM I going to pay in US dollars in overweight fees from Almaty to Aqtobe? The winner will get a surprise gift! For those of you that are not or have not adopted from Kaz, the overweight fees are based on the cumulative weight of ALL your luggage, including carry-ons. You are allowed about 48lbs per person. Total. Here's a hint (and this is just the starter pile -- still need to add more clothes, laptop, paperwork, etc.):
A family isn't determined by who is or isn't in it, or how it came to be, but by the bond that is created by the love that is shared.

A Sign!
Not to be outdone by Susan (of the Hot Mama Florida S's), who is the queen of receiving "signs" that adopting a child from Kaz is meant to be (and boy, has she had a ton of them!), I think I might, at long last, have had a sign yesterday! Was waiting at a stop light and the beat up old car in front of me had a license plate that read: 120 KAZ. Woo-hoo! Finally!! Been racking my brain to figure out what significance the "120" has. I'm betting that is how much I get to pay in US dollars for my overweight luggage. ;)

Pat says 115 lbs. and I say 125 lbs.
How cool to see that license plate!! We would certainly say it's a sign too.
I see a cute frog and those adorable stuffed kitties! Hmmm...I don't have that soft duck book - looks cute!
Anyway, seeing your stash of stuff looks very familiar. It's weird to pack like this as we've never done before.
Eileen & Pat
LOL---that is a true sign!!!!
wow, that is a lot of stuff.
I haven't piled it all in one room yet. the baby's stuff is in the baby room, our stuff is on a table in the living room, and the clothes are still in the closet.
This packing thing is REALLY HARD!! so far, the baby stuff takes up one entire suitcase. I keep telling myself to take some out, but i can't pick. Use those squish bags--they work wonders!!!
We went our visa applications off today. That was surreal.
This process is insane.
and the tickets are so expensive, like crazy expensive. For Joe, Sean and I, we are paying top dollar, without my overweight fees. :)
You got a great sign today.
PACKING IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HARD!
We are the family who takes 4 suitcases to Dallas for a week...(mostly my stuff) I am a horrible packer. and to pack for 6 weeks? and baby stuff? and movies? and comfort food? and medicine? and flimsy cutting board? and medicine for us? OH MY GOODNESS!!
Oh my gosh! LOL! What a great pile and game! Ok, I'm in. I will guess that when you convert Tenge to USD, it will be $122.43.
How's that for an exact guess? :-)
I ADORE that little bug-like toy with the red "antennas" and green face with wings. When you pull on the little pieces it makes such great noises. Gigi has by far outgrown it, but I'll never give/throw away that one! It goes in the keepsake box forever and ever.
120 hours until your LOI? ;)
I'm getting excited for you!!!!!! I'm thinking positively that you won't have to pay any extra surcharges!! Best, Susan and Griffin
What cute things!!!
I'm guessing $240 -- double your license plate number and double your fun!
Hope to see you soon...still no word I guess?
Hmmm, I think you'll only pay half of 120 - around $60 - for overweight luggage in Kaz. They didn't count the hand luggage and Summer is a lighterweight season than Winter... Hope to see that LOI soon!
I also think you will be closer to half the 120, maybe around $55. Whatever it is, it is well worth it!
Shanna
paid $45 in overweight baggage, then again, I think they counted my bags combined with my daughters who was then 4...
So, any new news? California minds want to know, I want to know :)
Hope all is going well.. ood luck in your packing and and your trail mix should be fine...The tiny fruit ones when hot maybe gets sticky..Lilla(Nonna).
